Havana International Film Festival of Latin America
The first edition of the Festival took place from the 3 to the 10 of December of 1979 and the juries were presided over by Gabriel García Márquez and Santiago Alvarez. More than 600 film directors of Latin America responded to this first call made by the Cuban Institute of the Art and Cinematographic Industry (ICAIC).
From his first editions the Festival has been an airdrop platform of the cinematographies of this region and also it has served as context to conferences on cultural identity, production and distribution of the local cinematography and new technologies.
